Busiuess has not been very brisk on the sharemarket during the past week. There has bren little demand for Government stock, buyers generally declining to meet sellers. There, were seekers of Christchureh Gas at £1 (is Od (cum. dn'.j, but holders did not quote. •Meat shares were also quiet, and the only sale was of New Zealand Refrigerating (£1 paid) at 10s 9d. Gear, Meat Company were on offer at £2 Is 3d, £2 Is, and £2 0s Od, but there very no buyers. Wellington Meiit Export (ord.) were sought at Ss Cd, but holders were riot interested. MISCELLANEOUS. j There was some busincs in brewery shares, and sales which, took place during tbe week were: New Zealand Breweries, £4 Is, £4 4s 9d, and £4 ss; Staples. ■ £2 los 3d and £2 15s 4d: and Tooths, £2, £2 0s 3d, and £2 0a (id. Crown were sought at 10s, but there were no sellers. Shipping shares attracted little- attention,, and there were no sales. Huddart, Parker (ord.) were offered at £2, and P. and O. deferred stock at £2 15s, £2 14s, £2 13s, and £2 10s, but buyers remained silent. Union Steam (pref.) .were sought at £1. . .... : Woollen and ■ timber shares were quiet throughout the week. In the other sections sales took place as follow: British Tobacco, £2 2s; Wilson's Cement, £2; IJlectrolytic Zinc, £1 10s 9d.
