The collision occurred when three, cara were almost abreast on the long straight on the <Vshhurat aide of the Whakarom^ dairy factory. - . Two of the' cars apparently' became cramped for room with the result th»t they collided. Mr. H. & Duff, of P»W merston North, driving a five-seater m»« chine and carrying three male ptsun* gers, could not hold Big car on the road, and ran off into a drain on the roadside. The second car, driven by Mr. II.O« Batchelar, of Utuwai, fared even "worse* It was also driven off the road, bn£ on striking the drain. capsized. In tfc«r (Mir, in addition to the driver, were Mrs. Batchelar and two small children, but by an extremely fortunate chan«e, all four escaped unhurt. Mr. Duff and hig passengers had similar, good, fortune,: but both cars were badly damaged. ■•. ■ ■ . •.-.
