FINANCIAL EXPERT

AMERICAN APPOINTED

ADVISER TO BANK OF ENGLAND

British Official Wireless.

(Received 30th January, 11 a.m.)

RUGBY, 29th Januuary.

The Bank of England announces that Dr. Sprague, Professor of Banking and Finance at Harvard University, has consented to take up the work shortly to be relinquished by Mr. Stewart, who for the past two years has acted as Economist and Statistical Adviser to the Governors of the bank.

Commenting on the appointment the "Daily Telegraph" says that it indicates not merely that there is to be continuity in the policy of co-operation between the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve system, but that the experiment has been a success.

Mr. Stewart was at one time head of the Statistical Division of the Federal Reserve Bank at Washington.
