POWER CUT OFF
STANDARDS COLLAPSE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OAMARU, This Day. At 3.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon the / central of the three standards conveying the Lake Coleridge power lines over the Waitaki River collapsed, disconnecting tho whole of North Otago from tho hydro-electric scheme, the standard supported lines carrying 66,000 volts. Oamaru and the surrounding district is totally dependent upon the local board's own small plant.
Mr. Grant, a public works engineer, is in. charge of the repairs, and has summoned the aid of the men employed on the Waitaki hydro-electric scheme above Kurow. It is hoped to effect temporary repairs by noon to-day.
