THE CHRISTCHURCH ARREST

The Commissioner o£ Police (Mr. W. B. M'llveney) is very pleased with the smart arrest made in Christchurck this week of the t'.vo Gray brothers (mention o£ which was made in yesterday's "Post") by Constable A. Gillum. Mr. M'llveney stated that Gillum has only been in the Force twelve months. He belongs to Wellington, and was one of the three men taken South by the Commissioner when he visited Christehurch at the time when big fires were prevalent. In Wellington Constable Gillum has made two notable arrests, which have earned for him a mark of merit. Discussing tho Christehurch arrest, Mr. M'llveney said to-day that he would see that GiHuin •was substantially rewarded. He felt now that all the fire worries were at an end. Mr. M'llveney also said he was proud of the work done recently by other conEtables, and in this connection lie mentioned particularly the names of Constables Hayes and Whitehead, of Auckland/ and Constable Simpson, o£ Dunedin.
