CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT

There was a crowded attendance at the breaking^up entertainment given by Mrs ■Menard's pupils at the Hataitai Hall. Mr' and Mrs. James Hislop presided, and an excellent programme of songs, stories (excellently told), trios, duets, recitations, and character songs were given, as well as a novelty, in the form of a "Boy's Comedietta," in which Bruce Johnston took the part o£ "Hostess," R. Martin (son), while the "ladies" were represented by Percy Killick, Jack Williams, David Johnston, Bob M'Connel, and Vernon Halliday. A historical play was another interesting item, the period being 1651, the dressing and setting being excellently done. Those taking part were Doris Glover (Charles I.), Joy de Lisle (Lady Grenville). Beryl Crow.ther (Rupert Grenville), Eileen Swede (Marjory Grenville), Erica Toulson (Patience), Marjorie Osborne (Simon), Theda Paseo (Julieka), Joyce Richardson (Lazlos), Joan Morgan (Captain Newmarch), Jim Osborne (Sergeant). Character songs, dialogues, monologues, etc., all went to form an entertainment of variety and interest. Others taking part included Ruth Martin, Betty ,Tossman, Miriam Tossman, Hilda Freeman, E. Bethcridge-Topp, Ailsn Riddell, Mavis Windsor, Valeric Ashenden, Queenie HallM'Lean, Roma Eetheridge-Topp, Laurie Searle, Marjory Banner, Leslie Anderson. At the conclusion Mr. and Mrs. Hislop congratulated both adults and children on the excellence of their performance, and Mrs. Hislop presented the certificates to the pupils. She had two charming bouquets presented to her from parents and children. Mrs. Menard and Miss Betty Menard (die latter being the accompanist for the evening), also had dainty bouquets given them, and Mr. Hislop made a presentation to Mrs. Menard from parents and children.
