PLOWEB GARDEN.

Before tho holiday season every part of; the garden should receive an overhaul.

which ehould have the flowers picked regularly day by day if the plants are to continue to bloom. Continue the planting of dahlias, and stake those which are already growing strongly.; ■ " ■ Chrysanthemums require lots of attention. Nip the leading shoots to make bushy plants. Stake before the plants get blown over, and spray at the first sign of aphis. Plant out silvias, asters, zinnias, petunias, French and African marigolds and other seasonal plants. . Gladiolus are commencing to throw up flowering spikes. The blooms will be improved if the plants are given liquid manure. Disbud and'tie up carnations. Clean up bulb beds or clumps as the foliage withers,: and .plant some sur-face-rooting annual in their place. VEGETABLE GARDEN. Keep the onion bed-free from weeds, taking, care'iiot to- damage the plants with the hoe. Remove all spent, crops and dig over and manure the ground for a further crop. Do not plant the same vegetable on the plot a second time; always vary the crops as far as possible. Eegular spraying of potatoes and tomatoes should be attended- to. Disease is most likely to appear when growth is rank after the recent rains. Tomatoes require tying to the stakes at frequent intervals, and all side growths should be rubbed out as they appear. , .... * Stake peas and French beans in their early stages. The labour entailed is more than compensated for by the improved crops.
