The Prime Minister, Mr. Mac Donald, in the House of Commons, was asked whether, in view of the fact that £100,000 had been collected from 50,000 subscribers to the Imperial League of Opera, the Government intended to give assistance in establishing a National Opera House. While expressing the warmest sympathy with the Opera League aims, the Prime Minister regretted he could not promise it a grant from public funds.
