RACING FIXTURES.

Nov. 2», 21—Wlmua J.C. Not 20, 21-Otaki Maori E.C. Psov 23—Levin X.C Nov. 30, Dec. 2—Takapuna J.C. Nov 30. Dec 2—Feilding J.C. Nov 23. 25-Te'KuUi R.C.

Next Week. The Waikato Meeting will be concluded on Monday. The Otaki Meeting will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Levin Meeting on Saturday. The Winton Meeting will also be held on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Te Kuiti Meeting opens on Saturday. ■ Racegoers thus have a "busy time. • ' Woodville nominations are due next Friday. Handicaps for the Feilding Meeting are v due on Tuesday. Otaki Acceptances. Interest will be centred on the Otaki Meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, a fixture that to Wellingtonians is practically a suburban gathering. Good roads and a fast train service has brought it very close to the city. The acceptances received-are in every way satisfactory, with a number o£ horses amongst them who have been racing this week at Riccarton in Goshawk, Merry Mint, Piuthair, ijlack Mint, Kiriana, and Koyal Game. The Ling Memorial Stakes, although there are only sis acceptors, is an open race. If Piuthair is none the worse for her racing at Kiccarton, she looks the likely one. Erst Money no doubt 'will be favourite for the sprint event after his second to Cimabue at Trentham. Good Prospects! It is understood that J. Munro, who has accepted an engagement to ride for Baron Oppenheim's stable in Germany, is to receive a retainer of £1500 a year. In addition, he will receive 5 per cent, of the stakes won by his mounts. Munro .is certainly one of the best riders in Australia, with a cool head, good hands, sound judgment, and vigorous- finishing powers. One of the horses he will probably be called upon to ride is the German , champion. Oleander, the record stake-winner of that country. Sprinters Prevail. Seven furlong races as a rule are looked on as beyond the average Siinoii Pure, sprinter except on small courses. Riccarton, the biggest course in New Zeal.nd, lias given the lie direct to this theory on two occasions recently. Subdivision, who is not regarded as a stayer, won at seven furlongs under th,e winter scale of ■weights in August, and on Wednesday Caterpillar upset the calculations of her own connections, as well as those of most of. the backers in the race, by winning easily in fast time. Both races have been won the same way. The horses concerned are brilliant. They were able to open up a break early, have a slight respite on the home turn, and then have enough in reserve to stall off the opposition. The Season's Juveniles. The two-year-olds who have raced at Riccarton have been only an average lot, and it seems safe to say that no youngster of exceptional merit has been seen out so far this season. Praise, if she is of superior class, should win the handicap event at Riccarton to-day, but it is doubtful if she will beat Tea 'Party at the weights. Watch Officer .won at Trentham, and, since has been sold at a good price for Australia. There have been some good gallopers amongst the winners ot the season so far, but it looks as if the summer and autumn will see the best performers produced. One or two powerW ™f hav?/ et *o-bring out their best, and a revision of the general average may then have to be made
