"JOURNEY'S END" COMPANY

Members of the "Journey's End" Company .met with an enthusiastic feception at the Commercial Travellers'' Club yesterday, when they were welcomed to Wellington by the executive of the Returned Soldiers' Association and representatives of the Commercial Travellers' Club. On behalf of the Wellington R.S.A., Colonel H. E. Avery, vice-president, said the author of the play "Journey's End" (Mr. R. C. Sherriff) was- a returned soldier, and his fh-st work had made him world-famous; and many of the company playing prominent parts in the New Zealand production were also brother "diggers." They hoped that the stay of the visitors in the Dominion would be a pleasant one, and that when those from the Mother Country returned to England they would convey to their comrades there the best wishes of the returned soldiers of Wellington. Mr. Howard Young (Commercial Travellers' Association) also extended a cordial welcome to the members of the company The hospitality of the club would be theirs during their stay in Wellington. Riddell, the former Magistrate; said their visit was all the more welcome because they were presenting a play (written by an Englishman) which had become world-famous, and was ■ totally different, and infinitely superior, to the light and meaningless form of entertainment with which they (the public) were being surfeited. ■ -.-.■ Mr. Reginald Tate (who plays the leading role in "Journey's End," said the members of the company felt the cordiality of the welcome.
