MAJESTIC THEATRE.

Alice White, who heads the all-star cast in "Broadway Babies," the new attraction at the Majestic Theatre, gives a remarkable performance as a chorus girl who finds that all tho wealth of Broadway cannot be compared with the honest love of her penurious stage raanuger sweetheart. She has that invaluable possession,, a pleasant voice, which suits the "talkies" to a nicety, and, in addition, she is I a capable actress of an unusual type. "Broadway Babies" gives an insight into life behind the footlights in one of New York's great theatres. Like the "Broadway Melody," it is a colourful production, full of alluring musical numbers and gay with scenes on opening night. Some of Uhe numbers are-certain to become prime favourites. "Wishingl aud WaitIng for Love," "Jig, Jig, Jaglloo," and "Broadway Baby.JJolls" are the best of many aud Miss White.sings them' with all the charm of which she is capable.; Much of the picture shows the, chorus girlsi jit rehearsal, and there is; remarkable rhythm: and colour in the various dances introduced. Apart from the scenes dealing with life' In the theatre, the picture gives a glimpse Into several of the night clubs fgr which New York Is famous, and gunmen and card sharpers also play their parts. Supporting Alice White»are Charles Delaney. Fred. Kohler. Sally . Ellers, Marlon Byron, Tom Dugan,, Bodll: Rosing, Louis Natheaux, and Jocelyn Lee, all:-of whom give attractive characterisations. Great enthusiasm is.aroused by the presentation' 'of the Fox Movietone News showing Nightmarch winning the ; Melbourne Cup. Tho reproduction is excellent in this item, and the cry, "New. Zealand wins,." is frequently heard from the huge crowd which saw tlie historic event decided. A miniature Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer revue is another support which holds ithe interest of the audience, and a second Movietone News contains much of real interest of doings in other lands. .
