Changeable, squally weather has been general with rain In many parts. The falls have been mainly light, but heavy at places in the far south. Particularly stormy conditions have been experienced in Otago, hail and snow fallIng at some stations. There has been snow also at various high, level places in other districts of the South Island. The cold snap resulted in some severe frosts last night in Canterbury and Otago. . At 9 a.m. to-day winds were still strong generally, but in the east coast districts and about Cook Strait the weather had improved.
