CHANGEABLE CONDITIONS

An extensive depression from the Tasman Sea has enveloped the Dominion. With the passing southward of its centre, pressure distribution has taken on the common westerly type. North to north-west winds have predominated and increased generally, a northerly gale being reported from East Cape this morning. Changeable and unsettled weather has been genera], with mild temperatures. and with rain in most districts. A few places in the north of the North .Island and on the West Coast of the South Island have reported fairly heavy falls, Arthur's Pass topping the list with 120 points. Wellington had 22 points, most of which fell after midnight. A continuation of ' the prevailing conditions is forecasted. Winds will be between the north and west, and will reach gale force in places north of Cook Strait although a temporary change to southerlies may take place soon in southern districts. Unsettled, squally, and changeable weather may b_e expected. Further rain is likely in most parts, and falls may be heavy in districts with a westerly aspect. _^^
