TECHNICAL SCHOOL
PETONE'S ADVANCEMENT The monthly meeting'of the Board of Managers of the Petone Technical School ■was held last evening. Present: Mr. D. Ji'Kenzie (chairman) and Messrs. A. Greening, J. J. Lewthwaite, H. Morris, ,W. Parkinson, and W. B. Nicholson. The Minister o£ Education (the Hon. H. A. Atmore) advised' that three sections adjoining the school and facing Kensington avenue had been purchased for the school. The chairman later announced that he had received that day a further communication advising that another section had been obtained and that there ivas a possibility of the purchase of still section already built upon. The Director announced the re-election "oE Mr. J. J. Lewthwaite as one of the employees' representatives on the board. The chairman congratulated Mr. Lewthwaite, who replied. The Director of the Wellington Technical School congratulated the board on the decision of the Government to establish a Technical High School in the district, and suggested that the board should endeavour to secure a large area of land for school purposes, and' also that the board should endeavour to establish an agricultural class. The board expressed its cordial thanks to the Wellington Board of Governors for its interest in the Petone School and for its suggestions. In connection with the establishing of a Technical High School, the chairman read a letter from the Hon. H. A. Atmore confirming . his verbal promise to commence such a school at the beginning of next year, and stating that plans and specifications were being prepared for extensive additions to the present building. llie chairman of the board was thanked By the members for his efforts in havlnLa day technical school established.
