CAT GIVES ALARM
ESCAPE FROM BURNING HOUSE

AUCKLAND, This Day. A wailing cat gave the alarm when a four-roomed cottage at the corner of Paninure and Ferndale roads was on fire early this morning. Mr. H. W. Hawthorne, hjs wife, and three children awoke and escaped just before the whole place was enveloped by the flames. Mr. Hawthorne found tho back part of the cottage blazing, and there was thick smoke sweeping through the rooms. With the greatest difficulty he carried out the children.
