IMPROVING WEATHER
TEMPERATURES WILL RISE
Although locally conditions were unpleasant during the week-end, the weather hardly being of a summer type, Wellington had no rain. The northern cyclone, which was centred on Saturday to the north of the Bay of Plenty, moved gradually in a south-easterly direction. Yesterday morning it was centred off East Cape, but by this morning it had travelled out of effective range^and was beyond the Chatham Islands. During the week-end it was responsible for strong south-easterly or southerly winds from Cook Strait northward, and for rain in many places, especially in northern and eastern districts, where falls were often heavy. In the South Island effects were less severe, the .wind not being so strong, and the weather being mainly • fair although there were some scattered showers on the East Coast. Everywhere temperatures were distinctly cold for the time of year. Since last night conditions ■ have begun to improve, and the southerly winds have decreased in force. An anticyclone is moving onto the .Dominion and barometric pressure is rising' Although at times between Cook Strait and East Cape south-easterly or southerly winds may still be strong, they should very soon moderate, and in northern districts - they will veer to easterlies. Scattered showers are still probable on the East Coast, but generally speaking *air weather may bo expected, with milder temperatures to morrow.
