WELLINGTON PETITIONS
A number of- Wellington petitions were reported upon by Select Committees in the House of Representatives last night. No recommendation was made by the Public Petitions Committee in respect oi a petition by Robert James M'Leod, of Petone, praying for a compassionate allowance on account of alleged injuries received while in tho employ of the Public Works Department. Reporting on the petition by C. W. R. Suisted, of Wellington, prayino- for compensation for the loss of his position as inspector of machinery, the Committee advised that it had no recommendation to make.
Similarly, no recommendation is made by tho Committee regarding the petition of Peter Maloney, of Wellington, praying for redress by having a certain record expunged from the Police Gazette of the Police Department, and for compensation and loss sustained.
The favourable consideration of tho Government is recommended in respect of a petition by P. J. 0 'Began, of Wellington, praying for the rights of passengers against shipowners in respect of injuries by accident resulting from the negligence of the shipowner.
