The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. B. Donald-) - announces the appointment of Mr. AVilliani J. Gow to the position of Second Assistant Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr. Gow has temporarily filled the position since the 12th March last, when lie relieved .Mr. M. B. Esson during the absence of the head of the Department, Mr. M'Namara, at the Postal Union Congress in Lon'dou. At a.- later date Mr. Esson was appointed to be New Zealand's representative on the Imperial Communications Advisory Committee in London, and Mr. Gow continued to act following Mr. M'Namara's return.' ■■
Mr. Gow first joined the Service in 181)3 at Oamaru. A few .years later— in 1899—he was transferred to the Secretary's Office of the General Post Ooice. There ho gained valuable and varied experience . over a period - of twenty-four years of all phases of the Department's, activities,.rising by 1920 to the position of Chief Clerk, after acting for a number of years as principal correspondence clerk. In 1923, he was appointed to tho position of Chief Postmaster, Auckland, and ho filled that important position with success until his transfer to Head Office in March last to relieve in tho position to which he-has now been permanently appointed.
