(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. On the arrival of the Maheno from Sydney this morning, Harry William Newland, agsd 30, was handed over to the police on a charge of stowing away on board the vessel at Sydney last Friday. He admitted the charge when he appeared at the Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Sub-Inspector M'Carthy said. Newland left New Zealand some time ago, working his passage to Australia ou the Port Victoria. He did not find Australia congenial, and wanted to get back home to New Zealand, so he stowed away in the firemen's quarters. Newland had no money with which to pay his boat fare.
"There are too many of these stowaways," said Mr. Hunt, who sent Newlaud to prison for 14 days.
