WEATHER IMPROVES

FINE AND WAKMI3R

The northern depression is of a shallow type, and has moved very slowly eastwards. / Its centre this morning was off East Gape. Southerly winds are now general, the change 'in the north having taken place last night. Nowhere is the wind strength severe. In districts north of Marlborongh further rain fell yesterday and last night, the heaviest falls being in the north of tho North Island. Unfortunately the South Island has had practically no rain as the result of the recent disturbances, the greater part having but a few, isolated showers. Cold temperatures have prevailed, but this morning a welcome improvement in the weather was in evidence. Light to moderate southerly winds are forecasted to veer to the west and later to the north-west in and'south of Cook Strait. . With the exception of ii- few isolated showers on the East Coast north of Castlepoint, fine weather should be experienced generally for the present. Later on seatterd showers will be probable on the West Coast of the South Island and around Povca'ux Strait. Although it may be cold to-night, warmer temperatures may be expected to-morroiv.
