FEET PER SECOND
"I hold the view,"and I hold it very strongly, that motorists should drive, not at so many miles an hour, but at so many feet per second. If wa con-1 sidered it in that light, the result would be very materially to reduce the number of these unfortunate motor accidents," said Mr. Justice Blair in the Palmerston North Supreme Court. In passing, his Honour suggested a simple arithmetical process to the jury by means of which it would be possible to convert miles per hour into feet per second. His Honour's method was to add 50 per cent, to the number of miles per hour; the resulting figure gives approximately the number of feet per. second (30 miles an hour is 44 feet a second). ■
