CLUB OPENINGS

R.P.N.Y.C. CEREMONY

EVANS BAY AND WORSER BAY TO-DAY ;

Sir^ Julm Luke, president' of tho K.P.N.Y.C., has been asked to officially open the club's season-next Saturday at 3 p.m. All yachtsmen and their i'riends are cordially invited to be present. Afternoon lea will be provided by the lady members of the club, and. a band will be in attendance. .- Thanks to tho-holiday last Monday,; most of the overhaul -work on the keelera was finished. One "or- two yachti are still on the slip at Ealeno Bay, but. they will be down this week-end. The .Shamrock and the Wylo returned to the' Boat Harbour oa Saturday afternoon. Trouble - was ■ experienced in getting the Galatea off the slip, and the services of a launch had- to be obtained Before she could be floated off the cradle. Her mast was stepped oa Sunday. The Ailsa came off on Sunday morning, and . her mast was stepped during tho afternoon. Tho Bona and the Wairere 11. hare yet to have their final coat of enamel, but no doubt this has been done during the. week. Tho Wairere I. and the Marangi both came off the Evans Bay Club's slip on. Saturday, and were out sailing oa Labour Day. The Wairere r has new sails this season. '- ■■ The Nanette was" out for her first sail last Monday. Sho is to be cut-ter-rigged this year, except perhaps for tho annual cruise, when she will reverb to yawl. ,' ! ... . ' _The Linnet,and the1 Viola were at .Ripple Bay on Sunday, and on Monday the Linnet went to the. outboard regatta while the Viola spent the day at Ward Island. This week-end ought to ■ see several more yachts out sailing. Evans Bay Notes. _ During the past week the waterfront >in Evans Bay has presented a very animated appearance. The last finish-" mg touches have been put on most of the boats, and the Maraugi, lolanthe Rawene, and Wairero 11. were put into the water, all looking spick and spaa and a credit to the owners and crews. A fair number of the centre-boards were cruising during the week-end, but the absence of wind on Labour Day, although suiting the out-boarders, did. .not allow the sailers fcj show off their paces to advantage. The competition between the centre-boarders this -season promises to be very interesting, and there is no doubt that a large fleet will be competing in the club's racing The advent of several new boats will have the effect of making the crews of forme m, aeks" look t0 their laurels. The commodore's new- 14-footer JNancy was out for a spin on Sunday and was very much admired Her orange-coloured hull and new sails have a striking effect. She has the appearance of being a very fast boat when. " her crew gets used to her. Being more familiar with keeler sailing, they have to learn the 1 ways of a small boat. Two ol the crew got an involuntary ducking on Sunday, capsizing her while tied to the jetty. ■ . /■ . „ C?™, si *S™- the ba >- on Sunday were the WeUesley 1., Wellesley IL, Kio II Little Haste, and tho Southern' Maid! jliie last-named, painted a royal blu-> is a smart-looking craft, and no doubt' will make a name, for herself aurii' toe season. .. • ° • There is a rumour that. Mr. llcllor's IS-footer Nautilus has changed hands, and will perhaps have the bay if this is so. This well-known boat will be sadly missed from the fleet ■ The club's opening takes place on Saturday, 2nd November, and a programme of amusements-is now beingdrawn up. Jwek^ The Kotuku U. was the only 14-footer to take the. water, being the subject of many devious glances from club memhard. 'Among the ..launches, Mr. Pa-. inns Katnna. and Messrs. Hannibal's Cygnet alone took ' advantage of the glorious cruising weather experiencedon Sunday and Monday. At the last committee me'etine it tti« unanimously decided that, weatler .nutting, a squadron of Paremata boats shoud sailto Plimmerton for that club's opening on 30th November It is the opinion of the executive 'that friendly relations between the two local boating clubs should be fostered to the ™T2?& Parti<Mlarly in" view of the small differences which have, unfortunately, existed in the past. unl<jmi Worser Bay Club. week^r? a Sre?' the rather for last week-end was almost perfect.
