:.- OTTAWA, Ist November. The Federal Department of Finance has positively denied that Canada has departed from the gold standard. [It was. stated in the Montreal "Star" th:it the Dominion had been off the gold standard for six months, and that this was the outcome of (1) stringent monetary conditions in Canada, (2) to protect Canadian gold holdings.- The same authority also stated that at the verbal request of the Minister of Finance, Mr. J. A. Eobb, the banks refrained from shipping gold, although/Canadian currency is at a discount, making New York shipments profitable. "The situation is one which is regarded as being extremely acute, but it is believed Vhat the" condition will right .itself in the ordinary course of events.]
