On the principle that, because it watj ready to criticise the Railway Depart* ment when anything went wrong its' should also express its appreciation ofi something that met with its approvaL the council of the Chamber of Commerce decided last evening to forwardj a letter of appreciation to the Depart* ment for the changes in the service be« tween Ch'ristchurch and the West Coast.
Mr. T. N. Gibbs said that the reorganisation of the time-table was going to relieve greatly the question of truck shortage. "I have lately seen trucks doing in three days works which' usually took them five days," he said, "and I believe that the Department is making a fine move in the direction of increasing efficiency. "y He added that the Minister had proposed to increase the facilities for night passengsrs between Christchurch and Greymouth, and he thought they should take notice of the improvements in the servi^ Tho president (Mr. -Norton Francis} • Yes, when anything goes wrong wo always kick, so when they are better we should let them know."
