NGAIO LIBRARY

CITY CONTROL SOUGHT

For some time past Ngaio has:had quite a n'ne library, although it has beon housed in somewhat cramped quarters. On Tuesday night a meeting of 11)0 Ngaip Progressive Association considered the possibility of handing over tlio library to bo controlled by the City Council, Jike a number of other suburban libraries. The matter will h.'ivo to bo discussed by tho Library Committee) of the City Council, but there is a definite movo in the direction' of a change of control. On Wednesday night the Ngaio library was visited by the City Librarian (Mr. J. Norrie) who, in conversation with an "Evening. Post" reporter to-day, expressed pleasure at the fine community spirit shown by. the people of the Ngaio.district. .If other suburbs and districts showed a similar spirit, ho thought the people would find that the municipality would stand behind them and thcro would be a general benefit. .

The Ngaio library, while wanting in accommodation at present, is a capital one. There is a very fair percentage of the general classes of books, travels, biographies, etc., and tho shelves hold tho latest novels. The Ngaio Progressive Association, of which Mr. Cummings is chairman, has ground available for improvements, and it is hoped that a new library building will form ;qne;of them. Mr. T. Hall is chairman 'of the Library Committee, and1 he has many enthusiastic supporters.I. "■•;.
