DANNEVIRKE, 3rd Oct. _ Tho Southern Hawkou Bay Farmers' Umqn to-day had before it a lengthy circular from, the North. Taranaki executive, regarding the Dominion president, stating in reference- to attacks on Mr. Poison that "if this organised agitation is allowed to continue the Farmers' Union would, bo discredited, and the largo amount of good work that had placed the union in the sound position it is in to-day will have- gonefor nothing."
Mr. J. Livingston, president, and member of the executive, warmly dofended Mr. Poison. Ho saia Mr. Polson did not belong to any political party and was doing the best in the- interests of the farmers. "There has," ho said, "been an absolute endeavour to discredit him for political propaganda. Mr. Poison was v man who never followed a particular party and always ondeavourod to act in accbrdwith tho views expressed at tho Dominion Couforence. I think it would bo a crying shame for : the Farmers' Union to lot down their president." Major .M'Donnell: '..{I- think the' whole thing has been political propaganda, organised by 'a certain section who aro trying to burst,tho union up through their prositlent. Mr. Livingston: "They aro trying to burst-up tho union aud to get a president of straw whom they can'lead " Major M'Donnell: "If a man, because <ho happens to bo in tho Farmers' Union or is the head of v business, cannot take part in politics his individual freedom is gone." It was decided unanimously by the 20 delegates present that the Southern Hawkes Bay oxecutivo have continued confidence in the Dominion president.
