REGENT THEATRE.

The mantle of many a famous actress who In past years has played In the great drama of mother-love is now worn at the Regent Theatre by Kuth Cliatterton, the latest "Madame X" of the latest form of dramatic presentation. As the ill-fated French heroine in this vivid alltalking filmisation. Miss Cbatterton appears in what is probably a new conception of the role. By means of clever make-up and cleverer acting, she appears at five different ages, as she gradually shows the disintegration of a woman's soul under tlle lash of despair. In the vivid Court scene she and Raymond Hackelt, playing the son who never knows his mother's identity, have remarkable scenes that fairly grip tho imagination, and her dramatic facing of Lewis Stone, as the husband, from the prisoner's box, is another piece of acting splendidly restrained but poignant in the extreme. Stone, as tho husband, and Hackett as the son give splendidly balanced performances, and the deft direction of Lionel Barrymore Is in evidence at every turn iv the drama. The cast is a notable one, and perfectly fitted to every role. Holmes Herbert, Eugenic Bessercr, Mitchell Lewis, and Carroll Nyo are Ideal in the roles allotted to them. The sound supports include "Berth Marks," starring those popular comedians, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, a Fathe Review, and a revue by Gus Edwards and his International Itevuc presented iv technicolour.
