LOWER HUTT COURT

The fortnightly sitting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr. T. B. M'Neil, S.M. * A. B. Cox was convicted and ordered to pay the costs, 11s, for riding a motorcycle without having a license, and was also ordered to pay the costs, 16s, for failing to give way to traffic approaching him from his right. For similar 'offences, J. D. B. Martin was fined 10s, and E. H. Shearer waa ordered to pay the costs, 20s 6d. Failing to keep to his left-hand side' when coming off the western end of the Hutt Bridge cost D. G. Webster £2 Bs, costs only. A. W. M'Millan defended a charge of driving in a manner 3 dangerous to the public. The bench considered the charge fully proved, and ho was lined £2 and costs. It. C. Partington pleaded guilty to a charge of negligent driving. The defendant was the driver of a railways bus, aud crossing the pipe bridge he ran into a mob of stud sheep, and killed four. On his behalf it was pointed out that the sole reason for the accident was the inefficient brakes on the bus, over which he had no control, having to take the bus assigned to him when he came on duty. Gough,- £G 18s; H. Foley v. A. Cundy, £28j,10s 8d; K. B. Young v.JR. Dender, £5 12s 7d; B. J. Dudley v. M. Mays, £8 2s; Estate of James Arcus, deceased, v. W. Miller, £30 16s. ■-■■.- In judgment summons cases L. Scoullar was ordered to pay O'Brien and Bransfield £10 5s forthwith, or. suffer eleven days' imprisonment; G. Stannard' to pay Clendon Bros. £2 19s or three days' imprisonment, and L. Armstrong to pay E. C. Kussell and Co., Ltd., £4 12s Sd, or 5 days' imprisonment.
