FAREWELL VISIT

NELSON, 2nd October. Next Saturday morning Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson will arrive in Nelson on their farewell visit. A full programme has been arranged. His Excellency wishes the morning to be kept free, but in the afternoon he will attend the children's gala at the Botanical Keserve and deliver an address. ' On Saturday evening Their Excellencies will pay a visit to the Kirkpatriek Masonic Institute. Sunday will be a free day. On Monday, at noon, at the Church Steps a civic function will be held, followed by a civic luncheon at 1 o'clock. In the afternoon a visit will be paid to the Public Hospital, from where the vice-regal party will proceed to "Bishopdale' and be the guests at aftornoon tea of the Bishop of Nelson and Mrs. Sadlier. In the evening Sir Charles Fergusson will attend a combined Masonic gathering, and the Lady Alice will be the guest of the Women's Club. The vice-regal party will leave Nelson on Tuesday morning.

The following nominations have been received for the Waimea Electric Power Board elections on 16th October: Waimea County (four members), Bobt. Daggar, C. T. Price, J. Corder, H. G. Kingsland, C. P. Brereton, Chas. E. G. Beatson, H. Or. Berryman, H Everett, D. Haining, Wm. A. Ryder, Fred. W. Gibbs. Eiehmond Borough, H. W. Kelly (elected unopposed). Tahunanui Town District (one- member)j I\ W. Greenslade, Chas. A. Chamberlain. Motueka. Borough, S. P. Clay (elected unopposed). The rainfall in. September was 3.78 inches,-and for the year to date 36.08 inches, a record for Nelson. Af Motucka. 3.24 inches were recorded during September. There were seven marriages, 29 births, and 14 deaths registered at Nelson during September. The subsidence on a, section of the Tahuna hills has stopped, and the upthrust 'on the road is now being removed. The. sea wall has apparently not been affected.

AVith the coming of warmer days, tho Tahuna beach is becoming move popular. Bathers are growing greater in number.

A public meeting has boon called for 22na October in the School of Music to consider the proposal of tho City Council to close a portion of Ngatitama street in connection with extensions to tho Boys' College. A vote will be taken on the- matter.

The Children's Gala Committee is arranging to entertain 3000 children next Saturday on the occasion of the children's annual gala. Children from all parts of the district as far as Murehison will attend. ,
