The Minister of Eailways (the Hon. \V. B. Taverner) returned from Dunedin to-day. The Minister of Eailways (the Hon. H. Atniore) returned from Nelson today. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. B. Mr. Justice Frazer Js report will be submitted to the Government. : "It is with sincere regret we have to record the death of Mr. Phillip Bevan, which occurred on 13th August last after a comparatively short illness," stated the report of the Wellington Cricket Umpires' . Association, which was presented to the annual meeting last night. "The deceased was an old and valued member of the association, joining our ranks about ten years ago, and his quiet and amiable manner won tho respect and esteem of members. He was a competent umpire, acting in that capacity iv a number of the most important games with visiting teams as well as local matches. He was one of the best-known* local authorities on the laws of cricket, and, probably, in the Dominion, having made the rules of the game his life study. He was an enthusiast in cricket and took great interest in the lower grades, especially the young boys, with whom he was very popular, and was always willing to give them advice whenever appealed to. . ." Two years ago he purchased a men's outfitting' business at Te Aroha. The deceased was one of the first presidents of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association. Ho was a keen follower of several sports, including bowling, cricket, rowing, and football. He is survived by. Mrs. Snedden. Three of his four sons are legal practitioners in Auckland. Mr. N. C. Snedden is well known as ex-captain of the New Zealand and Auckland cricket teams and Mr. C. A. Sucdden, besides his prominence as a cricketer, is president of tho New Zealand Eugby League Council. Mr. K. A. Snodden is president of the Sacred Heart Collego OH Boys' Asosciation. There are two daughters, Mrs. Flynn and Miss Vera Snedden. Mr. Snedden was 61 years of age.
