WELCOME SUNSHINE
FAIR WEATHER AHEAD
.Though according to some calendars August is the first month of spring it is looked upon by many people aa a month in which there is likely to be a fair amount of rain, to give, as it were, a good finishing touch to the winter months. But whether there is any truth in that or not, the first day of August in Wellington, and, as a matter of f act* * in most other parts of the Dominion, broke fine, with most welcome brightsunshine. There are. prospects, too, so the Dominion Meteorologist says, of further fine weather.
_ Fairly general improvement in. conditions has taken place, and this morning the only parts reporting rain were, the Auckland peninsula and'Foveaux Strait. Somewhat unsettled conditions, with cold temperatures, were experienced generally yesterday, and showers fell at scattered places, but after a cold night the morning broke fine over the greater part of. the Dominion. Southwesterly winds have predominated, moderate generally, but strong in parts of the East Coast and in the far north' and south. A rather deep depression i 3 still located south of the Chatham Islands, but pressure has risen over New Zealand wjth the approach of an anti» cyclone.
The forecast is for south-west to southerly winds, fresh at places in the extreme north and south, but decreasing, and elsewhere moderate. Some passing showers may still be expected in the northern and southern extremities of the Dominion, . but conditions should improve. Elsewhere fair to fine weather may be expected. Cold night temperatures are likely, with ' many frosts. - '
