PETONE LEVEL CROSSING

Sir,—l have, been much amused by the G^™H OV? iUf Uvo> the Part oi wty and Suburban Highway Board the various borough engineers, the Automobile Wub management, the Railway and Public Works Department, and the galaxy of engineering intelligence, .in dealing with this question of eliminating the alleged dangers of the Petone level milway cros S mg and the pvotests of each group that someone else should defray the cost *°r years past I have had in mind the possibility of doing without it altogether but the existence of the Railway \Vorkshops preluded my idea being giv-en effect to. The ramp can be used to-day and the level dossing dosed at the same time. A fewyards of crushed metal and the use of a steam roller for a few hour., and the teaf* rirtt tf < c cxlstm S ramps and overbudge If too narrow for traffic it can be widened easily by tipping spoil on either s,de from existing ramps, and the oyerbridge widening is a simple matter of pacing prdew in position from the leve of the present structure. A friend of mine recalled the matter to me the other i aln° netc C townwards.^
