SERVICES APPRECIATED

The chairman of tho Reserves Committee (Councillor B. G. 11. Burn), in conversation with a "Post" reporter today, expressed' his regret that the Zoological Society had decided to wind up its affairs, for, ho said, there was no question that the society had done a very great deal for the Newtown Zoo, not only by donations for the purchase of exhibits and tho presentation of animals and birds, but by assisting iv keeping up public interest in the Zoo. Councillor Burn has sent tho following letter of appreciation to the secretary of the society, Mr. John Castle:— "It is with oxtremo regret that I learn that your society is about to terminate its activities, and I desire to say, as a city councillor who has for many years been connected with the eommitteo controlling tho Wellington Zoological collection, that your society's efforts have been deeply appreciated, and that I feel that the position o^ the Zoo to-day is due in a largo measure to the untiring efforts of your society. I feel sure also that the public of the city of Wellington fully appreciate the good work you have done. . "I intend to "bring before the reserves department officially tlie fact that your society is ceasing its activities, and the council's appreciation of your services will no doubt be conveyed to you in duo course."
