Ufo of theatrical People on the Mississippi River, where the visit of a show-boat is still a feature of life jn some orthe small riverside towns. Tho showboat ■ of.the story Is called the "Cotton Palace, and Is the. property of Captain aud Mrs. Hawkes (chiefly Mrs. Hawks), who run their own show, specialising in melodrama. As time moves on, baby Magnolia Hawks grows Into a ; very beautiful woman, who, attracts the attention, of every leading man' to such a deBreo.that the mother Is for ever employed in dismissing them, and engaging others. Then handsome Gaylord Ravenal comes along to play leads, and the two at once lovo; the mother in her. bitter way' endeavours to prevent the inevitable, but falls Miss Laura La Plante plays the lead. Sho displays drpths of emotion hitherto unsuspected, while she sings her numbers In a charming voice. She Is supported, by Joseph; Schlldkraut and Alma Rubens. The scenes on the Mississippi, together wjth' the'quaint costumes of tho negroes, as well as their dolightful singing, makes the production one of ihe most charming seen here for a considerable time During an Interlude Mr James Bludsoe.'a negro singer, sings' "Ol 1 Man River," and. Miss Helen Morgan is heard in "My Man Bill." The musii* of "Tho Show Boat." already fairly well known, Is played by the Orchestra Be Luxe, and Mr. Emanuel Aarons plays selections from "Rio Rita" on tho Wurlitzer tirgan.
