EIGHTH IN THREE WEEKS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Last night's fire at Mr. Archer's house- was the eighth of a similar nature in tho city in tho past throo weeks. Tho total damago is estimated at £16,000. The police are investigating the matter, but thcro is no trace yet of the criminals.
Mr. Archer believes that nothing has been stolen. Tho thieves' first attempt to enter tho house was through tho breakfast-room. There aro two sots oi footprints, ono large and tho other much smallor, leading from tho back of tho washhouso across the garden to the breakfast-room window, and marks on tno catch of the window indicate- that an attempt was mndo to foreo it After being foiled there, it is believed that^ thei thieves entered through ono of the dining-room windows.
