BIG MILK MERGER.

. Completion o£ plans are reported for the combination of two very large dairy concerns in Europe. The principals mentioned in the deal are the Nestle AngloSwiss Condensed Milk Company of London and the Hollandia Anglo-Dutch Milk and Food Company of Holland, and Dominion concerns are drawn into it because they are subsidiaries of the parent organisations in Europe. The Hollandia Company is an exceedingly large one, with 101 branches throughout the world, and a capital estimated at some £5,000,000. The Nestle Company has branches in every 'country la the world, as well as several subsidiary companies in the United States. Their production factories are also located in every dairy country in the world. Recently Nestles secured control of the Dai Nippon Condensed Milk Company of Japan, involving an exchange of capital of;some £700,000. They also recently took over Gerber and Company, cheese manufacturers in; Switzerland, a firm that had been doing business all over the world. The, Nestle Company some years ago secured an option over a site near Palmerston North, 'with the object of commencing operations. The project was abandoned because, so it was reported, the company was uncertain as to the supply of hand-milkers available. However, the company later secured a dominant interi est in 'the Highlander condensed milk fac-tory,-Invereargill.
