STATE ADVANCES.
A pointed question regarding the activities of the State Advances Department was addressed to the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. Sir Joseph, Ward) by Mr. A. M. Samuel (Thames')! in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon: Mr. Samuel asked if it was not 'a! fact that there were applications befprej the State Advances Department awaiti ing settlement for over £1,000,000. ■The member for Waitemata (Mr. Aj Harris) gave notice to ask the Minister ■of Finance whether it is the intention of the State Advances Department tq lower the rate of interest on mortgages to 4J per cent., as promised in the Go* vernment's election policy.
