SATURDAY'S HOCKEY MATCH

(To the Editor.)

Sir.—ln your issue of yesterday evening there appeared a letter from a correspondent "A.8.," commenting, upon the' fact that the representative match between Canterbury and Wellington (the holders) for the New Zealand Hockey Challenge Shield, was to be played upon No. 2 ground at the Basin Reserve instead of No:, I:ground, where'the match conld be .better .-observed., by. users of. the pavilion and enclosure.. ' '. '' May I-in fairness, to the" Wellington Football ■ Association.' state that the' Wellington Hockey Association' did not request the use of No. 1 ground for this match, and have no complaint whatever to make regarding the ground allocated for the match pn Saturday. • I appreciate the sportsmanlike attitude of "A.8.," which is typical of the fair-minded viewpoint of Soccer supporters generally, and desire that it, should be known that without request from us the •Wellington Football Association has allockited ■ No. 1 ground fof. our n'se. in the'-.match against Australia on 20th July. .. . „-. ; : The use .of- the No. 1 ground' "on that occasion will be the more appreciated because it was offered and not given as the result of a request; the relations of the two associations are most happy, and have never been hampered by the mercenary considerations and selfish policy which make matters so strained in at least one other branch of winter sport. I thank you for the. use of your space to make this explanation in justice to the Wellington Football Association.—l am, etc., R. HARDIE BOYS, Hon. Secretary, Wellington Hockey Association.
