ELECTION OF SPEAKER
The term of Sir "Walter . Carncross, Speaker of the Legislative Council, - expires on 9th July, and it ■ is generally understood he will be reappointed, as members consider he has filled the position with tact and capability. . The Leader of the Legislative Council (the Hon. T, K. Sidey) has given, notice to suspend the Standing Order relating to the. election of Speaker; as "the present method involves giving one : ■ week's notice of. nomination after expiry of the present Speaker's term. If the Council agrees .to Mr. Sidey 'a motion, it will be possible to make the appointment without depriving the * Upper Houseof its Speaker for a week.
