DAMAGE BY FIRE

BLAZE AT JOHNSONVILLE

Premises owned by the J. W. Bod estate in the business area of Johnson^ yille, -were damaged by. fixe this morning. The. call to the outbreak was re: ceived at 6.23 a.m., and a motor pump and crew..were dispatched from the Thorndon Kre Station. A c/onfectionery ghop and general store, occupied by Mrs. Jane Bowler, with dwellings "attached, was totally destroyed.' The building was insured for.£lsoo in the South British Office. The rear, and upstairs portions of the premises were occupied by Jack Green. His belongings, were uninsured. The residential portion of the premises next door, which'were separated by a brick partition; were occupied by W. Symonds, and a butcher's shop by Symonds Bros., Slight damage was done to the shop ceilings and tho first floor. The contents were also slightly damaged by fire and water. The contents were insured for £250 in the 1.0.A. Office; the building for £1500' in : the South British, and a garage and the plant for £500, also in the South British. • -The adjoining building, containing five rooms and a shop, and occnpied by Thomas Johnson, was also affected' slight damage being done to the roof by fire, water, and cutting away ;_ Slight damage by heat was done to tho north side of premises occupied by Miss Mary Bonsfield—a wooden building of- two floors, containing seven rooms and a shop.

The Fire Brigade >vas also called at 3.26 a.m. to-day to 4,. Roxburgh street a shop with three living rooms attached owned by Norah and Phyllis M'Enroe' and. occupied by Mrs. England. The building, with contents, was severely .damaged by fire and water. The south wall of the adjoining house, No. 6 owned arid occupied by George Seagar' waa damaged by fire. There were three engines at the outbreak. .
