UNDER SUSPENSION
• SCOTLAND' YARD SENSATION
(From "The. Post's" Representative.) ■ •'. LONDON, 16th April. An inspector and a sergeant of the r>olitical branch o£ .Scotland Yard have Been temporarily suspended as the result of an inquiry regarding leakage of important information. The history of a large sum of money traced to a Kvnucli bank iB being ■ followed up, and a L -"lon connection has been established. On Saturday Sir Archibald Bodkin, Director of Public Prosecutions, conferred , with the chief officers of the Criminal Investigation Department. It is learned that perhaps a week" will elapse before action is decided .upon, and meanwhile the suspended officers will probably appear before a disciplinary board. This leakage, it is understood, refers particularly to the movements of British troops. For more than three years the Communists have been trying to spread ' disaffection among ssldiers. Certain regi- j ments have been frequently moved, but' wherever they have gone <he Communist propagandists, with their insidious literature, have appeared immediately on their arrival. - t^* 8 ,P ersisten' campaign -has puzzled the authorities, and has been discussed by Cabinet. The Special Branch, which deals with such matters, could not discover the culprits, and it was not until information was given to the intelligence branch of the War Oflice by a prominent British. Communist that any suspicion as to the - probable source was aroused. Finally senior officers of the Criminal Investigation Department secured evidence that representatives of a foreign State had been m touch both with officers of the Special Branch and with British Communists. These disclosures, which may lead to diplomatic representations to the State concerned, are said to involve a number of persons and may result in a Tound-up of Communists. The facts as they come to light are being placed before Sir Archibald Bodkin, the Director of Public Prosecutions.
