A sum of £90 000 was therefore set aside for various Maorr purposes. Although five years had passed since the legislation, they had kept the fund carefully, and had not had to apply to the Native Land Boards for contributions. Of the £90 000 ™ the fund, only £850 iiad been contributed by the South Island, and therefore the fund was mainly a North Island fund.
