RACE FOR HOME
PORT JIELBOURNE WINS
(Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The race from Auckland to London between the Commonwealth and Dominion, Line steamers Port Pirie and Port Melbourne resulted in a win for the latter by two hours, according to information received yesterday by the local representatives of the line. Both Vf?£l toft.AnoHana on the evening of 13th March, the Port Melbourne geto?? out twenty minutes' rtart. On 23rd March the Pott Melbourne was eight miles ahead of her opponent Arriving at Balboa on «h- "April, the I Port Melbourne was four hours ahead, but the Port Pirie lessened the inters vai to one hour during the passage through the Canal. The Port Melbourne signalled The Lizard at 1 a.m. on 22na April, and the Port Pirie at 7 a.m. the same. day. Passing Southend the next morning, the Port Melbourne °f increased hor lead to seven hours.
