AT ELLERSLIE

KAWINI AT LAST

SEATOWN AND GOLD MONEY ; ■"-■•. AGAIN

(By Telegraph from "Vedette.") .The Auckland Racing Club's Great • Northern Meeting was drawn to a successful conclusion yesterday, the weather remaining fine and mild, although the day was overcast.-'Rarely has the track been in,such good order throughout a'June \ Meeting. at Ellerslie. The attendance was good for this, the off-day, totalisator speculation amounting to £62,281 10sJ or £303 less than that of last year. This iaade the total deficit for the meeting £10,295 10b. ..The Jumping races again were disappointing, with a big percentage of falls. Jiawini scored luckily in the Winter Steepleqhase, but no one begrudged hi 3 win after his long list of minor placings. He received a good'round of applause on returning to weigh-in. j :; Bright Land was again much too good for the poor lot who opposed him in the Campbell Hurdles. : . .Singularly enough, Seatbwn and Gold • Money repeated their : first day's 1 successes in the two open events. Seatown, improved considerably by. his race on the first day, scored without much difficulty, but Gold Money, after beginning slowly, had only inches to spare ; from the protooted hack Eeitrim, who was well expected' irom the right quarter, and almost materialised. ■ / . ' T. Green, again rode both Seatown and Gold Money. He,had a great meeting, winning twice on this pair, and also on Standfast on the opening day. He was also on Standfast, and Te Money when they finished third, and his only unplaced ride was on Te Money yesterday, and on that occasion he broke a stirrup leather soon after the, start. TAMAKI STEEPLECHASE. ■Kauri Park was favourite, with King's Guard, Airtight, and Maidoa well backed. Maidoa went out to make the pace from Master Arch, Airtight, King's Guard, and Foxhound,. with Kauri Park laßt. Maidos ran off at the second fence of the stand double, being followed by Airtight, leaving Son o' Mine in charge from King's Guard, Master Arch, and Kauri Park. King's Guard took the lead going np the hill from Son o'. Minei'with Kauri Park moving up. Kauri Park jumped ahead of Son o' Mine at the J second fence on the hill, and went in pursuit of King's Guard, lung's "Guard led over the last fence, and waa not troubled to win by six lengthsl, fronj. Kauri Park, who beat Town Eambler 'by three lengths. Son o' Mine was fourth, and Master Arch last, Foxhound having been pulled up with a, round to go.- . .King's Guard saddled up well for his third race at the meeting, and had too much dash for Kauri Park, who looked dull before the race. King's Guard again jumped; brilliantly, and Kauri Park also i'enced well enough.. Son p' Mine did^npt jump .well in the' concluding stages. Town Rambler went quite a fair race. Maidos was not jumping -too well tip to the time he ran off, but Airtight was going really well. „.,;>:</-;.:, ;.; ■ v . ORAKEI HACK HURDLES. • Overhaul was backed down to a short price, with good backing for Otairi and Prince Lu. Otairi, jumped badly at the first fence, and Sulla almost fell at the second fence and interfered with Overhaul, who lost his rider, Sulla also being pulled up. Otairi, whose rider had lost his irons, fell at the stand flight, Prince Lii continuing in charge from Harbour View, Star Comet, Master Doon, and Abbot's Delight. Star Comet fell five furlongs from home, and Luminary and Te Waka at the next fence. Prince Ln wa? ten lengths clear going'to the turn from Harbour View, Master Doon, and Abbot's Delight. Prince Lv came on to win easily by six lengths from Harbour View, who beat Master Doon by five' lengths. . Abbot's Delight and Soami: were the only others to finish. • ; Prince Lv scored very easily, and ex; cept for the secondlast fence gave a first-, class display .of jumping. Harbour View, owed his second to safe jumping, and Master Dooa plodded . on. Overhaul's backers had bad luck, -for he; collided in the air with Sulla and his jockey .was shot clean out of the saddle. Otairi had no chance after blundering at the first .fence. Luminary was :badly interfered with when Otairi fell at the stands. Star Comet was going well when he came to grief, and. with a stand-up might have been second. Frothblower was pulled up.-. .. .. . ...... ...;.'. ". . . YORK HANDICAP. Mosque, the King Lu-Queen Arch bracket, Hyde Park, Black Duke, and Seatown were solidly backed in a good betting race. Hyde Park and The Hawk showed out first, but Marble King soon shot to the front and led down the. back from King Lv, The Hawk, Ohinemuri, Hipo, and Hyde Park. Marble' King led at the half-mile from Ohinemuri, Hyde -Park, Hipo, King ■ Lv, Seatown, King Smock, and Tinokoa. Marble King led into the straight from Ohinemuri and Hyde Park, with King Smock, King Emerald, Seatown, and Black Duke next. The leaders were beaten a furlong from . home, where Seatown came through near the rails, and King Emerald was going well on the outside. Seatown came on to win well by three-quarters of a length from King Emerald, -who beat Barometer by two lengths,- then coming Ohinemuri, Tinokoa, Mosque, The Lover, King Lv, , Corinax, Hyde Park, and Black Duke. Seatown, looking a better horse for his race on the first day, won even more decisively. He is right back to his best form, and his performance with 10 stone was very impressive. King Emerald, after being last to move and patiently handled, stuck on well, and rewarded his backers with a good second dividend. Barometer finished very well. Ohinemuri again Bhowed pace, but failed to stay on. Tinokoa ran a'useful race. Mosque did not receive the' best of passages, but would not have won anyway. The Lover stuck on. King Lv did not show much dash at the finish', and really had every eTiance. Black Duke waa not particularly prominent from the turn home, and The Hawk waß beaten at the end of six furlongs. Hyde Park had every chance and was well beaten. ■ WINTER STEEPLECHASE; Mangani,- Wiltshire, Kawini, and Uralla were the favourites in another good betting race. Mangani led down the straight from Young Thurnham;; Wiltshire, and Potoanui, who blundered at the second fence and lost his rider. Going up the hill, Mangani just led Maunga and Wiltshire, with Uralla, King Fame Kawini, Young Thurnham, and Kame^ hameba next and Glendowie toiling along in the rear. There was little change at the.stands, and King Fame fell at the bottom of the hill the next time. Uralla ' came to grief at the first fence on the top of the hill, where Mangani just led Kawini, Wiltshire, and Kamehameha, with Young Thurnham and Maunga well back and Glendowie even further back. Mangani fell at the second last fence when well in the lead, and Kamehameha and Kawini went into the last fence on terms, clear of Wiltshire and Maunga. Kamehameha refused, and Kawini came onto win by ten lengths from Wiltshire, with Maunga: four lengths away.

Young .Thurnham was fourth, with Wed- ] ding March a bad fifth and Glendowie a , furlong away. Kawini was lucky to win, for Mangani ' and Kamehameha might easily have ' beaten him had they completed the course. He looked a better horse all the, > same. Wiltshire's rider finished with one stirrup dangling. He jumped much < better./than ; in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Young . Thurnham just < battled on, and Wedding March showed no dash whatever and did not jump overwell. :Possibly the- less- said about Glen- : dowie the better. It will be very inter- i esting to see how he progresses with the i season. Maunga ■ had a "life" at more '. than one fence, but stood up and gained ' a lucky third prize. Mangani and Uralla were both going fine races when they went out, and their backers were : unlucky. P.otoanui was soon out of ' trouble. Kamehameha's jockey possibly was to blame for his mount refusing at the last .fence. : CAMPBELL HURDLES. Bright Land was backed down to a shade of odds-on. He led to the first fence, and i Lady Spalpeen fell at the second fence. Bright .Land; led past the stands from- i Horomea, Golden Wedding, Karamu, and ; Kilburn. Horomea fell at the fence • going out of the straight. Kilburn moved up in.the back straight and passed Karamu. but .Bright. Land, despite three bad jumps,.-was not troubled, and was galloping away; at'the end to win by four lengths from Golden Wedding. Kilburn was Beyen: lengths away third, well clear of Karamu. ■ • The winner was a class above the -field on the day, but ;Kilburn was too sore to do himself' justice. Golden Wedding ran quite : a., decent race. Horomea looked a possibility for a minor place by the way she was; going when she fell. VISITORS'HANDICAP. Gold Money and Awarere were almost equal favourites, with Leitrim.arid Lucy ; Rose-best backed of the. others. Awarere
