OFFICER IN AMERICA

GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENT

With a view to attracting more American tourists to New Zealand, the Government has appointed Mr. J. L. 'Wheeler, managing _ director of the travel firm of Pacific Tours, Ltd., of San Francisco, as iourist representative of New; Zealand. This appointment was announced by the Prime Minister, Sir .Joseph Ward, in. a speech, at Auckland. ..... ■..-. •Sir''Joseph-said Mr. Wheeler had already organised and conducted many personally-conducted tours from America through New Zealand. The last was during the season gust closed. The arrangement was by way of an experiment . for. one or two seasons, renewable, if desired, by the Government. The Bail way Department was associated with the'Tourist'-'Department, and Mr. Wheeler Would, in arranging his tours, do all possible to ensure a maximum of railway travel.
