FIRE AT PAEKAKARIKI.
A five-roomed house belonging to Mr. Brown, of Khandallah, was completely gutted by fire on Wednesday. Four minutes after the- alarm was given, the local Fire Brigade was on the spot, and it was through their efforts that the adjoining properties of Messrs. Jerrani (manager of tho State Fire Insurance Department) and Mr. Kedward were saved. Very few contents of tho house were saved, as tho fire had a good hold when the brigade arrived, and it took all their efforts to save tho adjoining buildings.
