DEFYING THE MINISTER
COOK HOSPITAL BOARD

GISBOENE, 18th April. On the ground that the Tolaga Bay Cottage Hospital is not providing an adequate service for the amount expended on it, tho Cook Hospital Board decided to-day to closo tho institution. The decision was i.rrivbd at after a prolonged discussion on a telegram from tho Minister of Health stating that he could not agree to the • application to close the institution, the board deciding on a policy of open tlofiar c of tho Minister by six votos to five.
One speaker said the Minister's action was inconsistent, 'as.when in Gisborne he informed the board that the decision lay 'with them, but now he stated he did notagroe with the closing of the institution.
