Surprise was expressed at last week'g meeting of the Wellington North Batepayers' Association at the omission of Councillor 11. D. Bennett's name from the list of candidates recommended in. eouncction with the forthcoming municipal elections, especially in view of the useful work carried out in connection with the bitumen paving'of the city and suburban, areas. It was stated that the result of Councillor Bennett's efforts in pushing this scheme has resulted in Wellington fast becoming a dustloss city. General disapproval wa3 expressed at the action of the Civic League in again attempting to force a ticket of their nominees upon the electors.

In a statement to tho Press, the president of the association (Mr. A. J. Curtis) stated to-day that his association thought that although •well-known men had no need to fear the result from the issue of such a. ticket, it did affect any now man who now hesitated to offer service unless he passed ;t "look over" by members of the league. 'Also it was not thought proper that any citizens' ticket should exclude all representatives of Labour on public bodies. The nomination of a full ticket for each' body, as was being done at present, was an attempt at this exclusion, and he thought this was not favoured, nor was it in the interests of the citizens as a whole.
