ENTITLED TO LICENSE

RIVAL BUS SERVICES

The Hamilton Borough Council's regulations for bus services between Cambridge aud Fraivkton Junction have been the subject of dispute during the past year, and to-day the Transport Appeal Board, Mr. Justice Frazer presiding, upheld an appeal by Walter Trethowen against the refusal of the Hamilton Council to grant him a license for this run. The dispute was largely between rival services; the question also arose as to whether the Hamilton authorities were justified in compelling Cambridge passengers to change buses in Hamilton, and take town buses for the* short journey to Frankton to connect with trains.

The board sat at Hamilton and Cambridge, where tho Mayor and others gave evidence that Cambridge poople wore inconvenienced under the present

arrangement.

In granting Trethowcn's claim for a license, the Court ruled that the Cambridge services should tako only through passengers to and from FrankLou railway station, and should not compote with the local Hamilton run. The fact that tho rival bus company was not giving a full service at the timo of Trethowen's application influenced the board in Trethowon.'s favour.
