STATE LOANS.
Although the differences in the public finances of New Zealand .and Australia may account in a measure for the former country being able very often to borrow upon more favourable terms than our brothers across the Tasman. there are other factors^goveraing these transactions such as for example rates and prices of products, and it is not always safe to compare the credit of one country with that of the other merely upon the results of any particular ilotation. Here is a little problem concerning this class of stock. The investors holding ten million Australian o per cent, stock, issued when money was much cheaper than at present, decided to realise and sold out at ninetyfour and a-half, investing the money in 4 per cent. New Zealand Stock at one hundred and five. As the former was move favourable to the issuing State than the latter, can the reader say by how much per nnuum the investors benclifed by selling the Australian Stock and purchasing New Zealand?
